Delores "Lois" Pruitt Phillips, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024, in Greenville, SC. Lois was born on November 25, 1949, in Gainesville, GA, and grew into a woman whose life was characterized by her loving nature and boundless generosity.
Lois was the heart of her family, offering unwavering support and warmth. She is survived by her adoring daughters, Sonja P. Hunt and her husband John, Kristie Cabe Davis and her husband Adam; her devoted brother, Larry G. Pruitt and his wife Marilyn; and her precious grandsons, Daniel Hunt, David Hunt, Wyatt Davis and granddaughter Darlye Schwan and her husband Caleb. Lois was the proud great-grandmother to Oliver, Mavis, and Allyssa. Although predeceased by her husband of 49 years Charles D. Phillips, father, Clarence "Pete" Pruitt, her mother, Frances S. Pruitt, and her twin sister, Delane P. Bayne, Lois's legacy of love lives on through her family and the many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends she cherished throughout her life.
A devout Christian, Lois embodied the teachings of her faith through her actions and the way she lived her life. She found joy in the simple pleasures, like cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks or getting lost in the thrill of NASCAR racing. Her spirit was as fiery as the engines on the track, and her faith was as steadfast as the most dedicated fans in the stands.
Lois's love for her dog Rufus was unparalleled, and the bond they shared was a testament to her capacity for unconditional love. Rufus was not just a pet but a cherished companion who brought endless joy to her days.
In the kitchen, Lois was an artist, and her family was her most appreciative audience. She reveled in cooking for her loved ones, creating meals that were much more than sustenance; they were an expression of her love. Each dish was prepared with care, and her generosity knew no bounds as she shared her culinary creations.
To describe Lois as loving, thoughtful, and selfless barely scratches the surface of the impact she had on those around her. Her thoughtfulness was evident in every action, from the way she remembered every birthday to the comfort she provided in times of need. Selflessness was her guiding principle, and her life was a living example of putting others before herself.
Lois's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but her memory will be cherished and celebrated. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends. Lois Pruitt Phillips will be deeply missed, but the light she brought into this world will shine on in the hearts of all who loved her.
