David D. " Doc " Stinson

June 15, 1933 — August 3, 2017

David Stinson passed away August 3, 2017. Better known as “Doc” Stinson to his friends, David was born to the late David D. & Ruth Kilpatrick Stinson in Sarasota, Florida on June 15, 1933. He graduated from Florida with a Business Degree, but it was service to the military and Law Enforcement that became his true calling. Joining the Navy first, Doc served as a Hospitalist. It was during that time that he served 2 years in Vietnam, received 5 Good Conduct medals, and 1 Commendation. He followed that by re-enlisting with the Marine Corps, where he served as a Hospital Corpman. His remaining years were spent in service as a Police Officer and Deputy Sheriff in Gwinnett County, Georgia. His best years however, were spent in a great marriage with his wife Betty, who loved him very much and will miss his wonderful humor. In addition to his parents, “Doc” is preceded in death by his brother, Juliah M. Stinson. Surviving are his loving wife of 12 years, Betty D. Stinson of the home; 2 daughters, Cheryl Smith of Summerville, SC and Delaine Stinson of Hickory, NC; 2 granddaughters, Emily and Grayson; 1 grandson, David; and 1 great-grandson, Tye; two step sons, Michael Robinson and Ronnie Davis; Ronnie has been very close to and has helped much with the care of David during his latter time of life.

A Memorial Service has been planned for Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with full Navy Honors. Please join “Doc’s” family as they celebrate the life of this Proud American.
