Dr. David Charles Kraus, age 71, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 in Greenville, SC. David was born in St Louis Missouri, son of the late Robert Peter Kraus, Sr and Nancy Kelbaugh Kraus. Although he was just one person in the world, he meant the world to his loving wife, Holly, three children, Richard and wife Brenda, Rebecca and husband Robert, and Jimmy and wife Susan, and grandchildren, Lizzie, Katie, Anna, Samuel, Sara, Jonathan, David, Polo, and Mateo. He is also dearly missed by his brother, Robert, sister-in-law, Donna, nephew, Chris, niece, Susan, and sister-in-law Kathryn.
Throughout his life he maintained a deep love of music and found joy in singing, playing the trombone, guitar, and piano, and sharing music with others, including his children and grandchildren.
He had a natural curiosity for engineering and mathematics and obtained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri. He enjoyed remembering the friendships he made at “Mizzou” as a member of Delta Sigma Phi, fraternity. David was proud of his training in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and subsequent commissioned service as Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers. Most importantly, during his time in college, he met his future wife, Holly - a student at nearby Stephens College. In his late 40’s, inspired by his children, he returned to school and successfully completed a Ph.D. in Human Factors Engineering from Clemson University.
He will probably be best remembered for his sense of humor and positivity. Even during his most difficult times, Dave found a reason to smile, and his cheerful, lighthearted personality brightened the lives of those around him.
His family will always carry his memory in their hearts.
Services will be held at St.Peters Episcopal Church, 910 Hudson Road, Greenville, SC 29615 on April 6, 2019 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the Kraus family requests donations to St. Peters Episcopal Endowment Fund.
