David J. Fisher, 67, passed away on December 22, 2021, surrounded by family. David is survived by a brother, Richard S. (Nick) Fisher (Marilyn), and a sister, Christine F. Sauls, all of Greenville and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Samuel H. Fisher and Dr. Peggy M. Fisher, and a brother, Michael P. Fisher.
David grew up in Greenville and moved to New Jersey after his parents’ untimely deaths. He was a National Merit Scholarship finalist and attended Emory University until being seriously injured after being hit by a car in New Orleans in 1974. He lived his remaining years in various supervised living situations in Sumter and Columbia, SC.
Despite his physical limitations, he was a devoted Christian and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Sumter, SC, and St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC. David attended every Sunday he was able, proudly wearing his favorite red velvet sport coat. Known as D'Fish, he was a long-time friend of Bill W. and a member of the Horseshoe group in Columbia.
David was an inspiration to all who knew him and will be remembered for his fierce determination, his love of family, times spent at “the Lake”, and his crystal blue eyes.
A memorial service was held at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church on January 13, 2022.
