Daniel Lorch, 81, husband of Barbara Anne Ludwig Lorch,went home to be with the Lord on October 20, 2013.



Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Adolph and Dorothy Freider Lorch. Dan graduated from Central High School and from Penn State University (class of ’54), where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. A member of the Penn State Track Team, Dan was an IC4A Pole Vaulting Champion.



After earning his degree, Dan enlisted in the US Air Force, where he was promoted to Captain and flew as part of the Strategic Air Command. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Dan worked on various US Navy aircraft, developed ejection seats and safety systems, and participated in safety research and development. He furthered his education at Hofstra University, earning a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering.



Dan taught Physics and Chemistry at MercersburgAcademy(1964-1967) and then taught Physics and Physical Science at the Stony Brook School (1967-1979). From 1979-1993 he worked as lead engineer for research and development at the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, Pennsylvania.



Following his retirement in 1993, Dan did extensive research and writing on the scientific evidence of Intelligent Design. His passion was that people would see and know the evidence of their Loving Creator and seek a relationship with Him.



In 1963, Dan married Barbara Ludwig, and they were blessed with 50 years together. In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by four children, Bryan Lorch and his wife Terri ; Susan Lorch Ely and her husband Dwight; Steven Lorch and wife Jennifer; Pari Safiari and her husband Moe; and seven grandchildren, Nicholas, and Amanda Lorch,  Aldan, Elizabeth, and Luke Ely, and Omeed and Roya Zarrin.



Dan was preceded in death by his daughter, Robyn.



In celebration of Dan’s life, a memorial service will be heldon Sunday, October 27, at 3:30pm at Kingdom Life Christian Center in Mauldin, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Kingdom Life Food Pantry, 200 E. Butler Rd., Mauldin, SC 29662, to the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cremation-sc.com .
