After his service in the Navy, he graduated from the College of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, NC, and was a Fire Protection Engineer for 45 years before retiring.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dan was a man of many passions. His love for music was undeniable, and as a talented drummer, he found joy in the rhythm and the camaraderie of playing with fellow musicians. His hobbies extended to the tranquility of fishing, the challenge of golf, and the simple pleasure of being silly and making his family laugh. He was a creative soul who could craft wonders from the most mundane materials, often proclaiming that with a bit of duct tape and cardboard boxes, he could make anything.
Dan's generosity and loving nature were the cornerstones of his life. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Joanna Kidd, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. He was predeceased by his mother, Betty E. Kidd, his father, Roy L. Kidd, and his brother, Ken Kidd. His legacy continues through his family, including his brothers Tom, Jim, and Randy Kidd; his children, Alex Kidd, Brooke Kidd-Koury, and Julie Kidd-Coile; and his cherished grandchildren, Samm Kidd and Nash Coile. His sons-in-law, Heath Coile and George Koury, also held a special place in his heart.
Dan's presence was a gift to his family, and his role as Papa was one he cherished deeply. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of kindness, creativity, and the importance of family. His playful spirit and generous heart ensured that every moment spent with him was full of warmth and joy.
Those who knew Dan will remember him as a man who lived his life with a generous spirit and a creative spark. He was the embodiment of love and the epitome of a life well-lived. His laughter, his music, and his inventive creations will be deeply missed but will continue to resonate in the memories of his loved ones.
