Dalton peacefully went with the Lord and Savior on December 18, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Dalton was born in Greenville, SC on August 28, 1935 to the late Arthur and Lila Mae Spearman Gunter Allen. Dalton was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church and a Deacon. Dalton graduated from Parker High School Class of 1953.

Dalton was very productive starting at age 7. His stepfather, Robert Melvin Allen, instilled in Dalton exceptional craftsmanship and dedication to carpentry work. Dalton's ambition led him to become the founder of GM Mechanical. His strong work ethic, determination, and motivation led him to high-quality results when he invented and held the patent for the magic light. Dalton became a pilot and loved flying.

Dalton is survived by his son Christopher (Linda) Gunter, grandson Brian (Betsy) Gunter, granddaughters Jennifer (Brad) and Emily Gunter, 5 great-grandchildren; Nolan Gunter, Charlie, Ben, and Remi Hoover, and Emily's Child, and sister Betty Nalley.  A sister-in-law Janice Allen, a nephew Travis Allen, and a long-time friend Geneva and Wendy survive him. Dalton is preceded in death by one daughter Amy Elizabeth Gunter and two sons, Timothy B., and Terry Alan Gunter, his children’s mother Jackie Gunter, a grandson Alan Jacob Gunter, 3 brothers, Leroy Gunter, Beauford Allen Olin Franklin Allen, and 2 sisters Mattie Gunter Wood and Dorothy Allen Hamlett. 

The family is at the home of Geneva and Wendy, 20 Montague Circle, Greenville, SC 29617.
