Brethren, we gather today to celebrate the home-going of a cherished soul, Constance "Connie" Wendt, a beacon of love and faith who was called to her eternal rest on May 11, 2024. Born on the first day of August in the year of our Lord 1933, in the bustling city of Cleveland, Ohio, Connie's journey of 90 years was marked by the grace of the Almighty and the love she poured into the lives of those around her.
Connie was a devoted wife, widowed from her beloved Robert Kenneth "Whitey" Wendt, and a loving mother to her children. Though her heart knew the pain of loss with the passing of her firstborn, William Edward Wendt, and her daughter, Karen May (Wendt) Perdue, her spirit never wavered. She found solace in the continued legacy of her family. Connie leaves behind her children, Robert Edward Wendt and Kenneth Edward "Kenny" Wendt, daughter-in-law, Beth Ann Wendt, son-in-law, Russ Perdue, as well as granddaughters Autumn (Stephen) Stone, Ashley (Aaron) D'Innocenzi, Lauren Perdue, Jennifer (Jason) George, and grandson Robert "Bobby" (Jessica) Wendt, as well as her 13 great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy.
Connie's professional life was as rich and varied as her personal one. She graced the halls of Parma Hospital and Beaches Hospital, both in Admitting, and lent her skills as a secretary at Gulf Life and a law firm. Her career culminated at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where she served the elderly with compassion and dignity.
Her service to the Lord was unwavering, as she took up the mantle of Church Deacon and later Elder, guiding her flock with a gentle hand and a steadfast heart. Connie's faith was the cornerstone of her existence, and she lived every day as a testament to the love of Christ.
Connie's hands were rarely still, for her love of crafting was a sight to behold. Whether she was knitting, crocheting, stamping cards, or sewing, each creation was a labor of love that she joyously shared with all. But above all, her greatest delight was found in the laughter and embraces of her grandchildren, whom she loved with every fiber of her being.
To describe Connie is to speak of love, for she was the embodiment of it. Her faith-filled spirit shone brightly, guiding her through life's trials and triumphs. Creative in her endeavors, she inspired those around her to embrace their own talents and passions.
As we lay to rest our dear Connie in the gentle embrace of Lyman, South Carolina, let us not mourn, but rejoice. Join us as we celebrate the life of Connie Boyett Wendt at 913 Christian Church, 2560 Mayport Road, Atlantic Beach, on Saturday, May 25. The service will begin at 11:00am. There will be a refreshment reception following the service to share your condolences with Connie’s family and friends.
