FORMER FLUOR EXECUTIVE DIES:
Charles Elwin “Win” Moore, Jr., husband of over 40 years to June Elizabeth Pate Moore, passed away on July 4th, 2016. Before retiring as a Vice President Operations in 2003, Win was an employee of Daniel Construction Company and Fluor Corporation for over 35 years.
Win was born February 19, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama, the eldest son of the late Charles Elwin Moore and Anne Amelia Hardesty Moore who passed away in 1968 and 2008 respectively.
Win graduated from Madison High School, Madison, TN and attended Clemson University earning a BA in Economics. He served five years in the U.S.M.C. Reserve. As a child and teenager, Win lived in many U.S. locations, mostly in the southeast and Delaware as a result of his father’s employment with the E. I. DuPont Company. Win, his wife June, and their children followed this same lifestyle, in his work with Daniel and Fluor, finally settling in Greenville in 1990.
A lifelong Episcopalian, Win was a communicant at Church of the Redeemer in Greenville. Win was an avid golfer until a health issue prevented him from playing. He was a member of the Greenville Gun Club and loved bird hunting with his sons and son-in-law. In retirement, he was a dedicated genealogist and loved telling stories and jokes. His greatest love was his family with whom God so graciously blessed him.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children: a daughter, Charlotte Anne Moore Lay and her husband, Carlton Russell “Rusty” Lay, a son, Charles Corbett Moore and his wife, Ashley Noel Moore, and a son Reed Hardesty Moore and his wife Katherine Rose “Katie” Moore. Also surviving are two sisters: Julie Moore McAfee and her husband Cole McAfee of Poulsbo, WA. and Amelia Anne “Amy” Moore of Cornelius, NC. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Conner Elizabeth Lay, Audrey Lucile Moore, Lucille “Lulie” Mae Moore, Asher Jones Moore, and Brooks Hardesty Moore. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Jewell Hardesty Moore and step father, Allan Frederick Goud both of Camden, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Greater Western Carolina: 5 Century Dr #240, Greenville, SC 29607, or Church of the Redeemer 120 Mauldin Rd, Greenville, SC 29605. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 3pm at The Church of the Redeemer located at 120 Mauldin Rd, Greenville, SC 29605.
