Born on November 10, 1940, in Franklin, NC, he was a man whose life was marked by a warm sense of humor, keen intelligence, and a spirit of adventure that touched the lives of all who knew him.
Charles grew up in a large and loving family, the son of the late John Boyd Long and Helen Gribble. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Nancy Lance Long, his brother, John Long (Judy), and his sister, Joann Long Gregg (Grady Gregg and Gene Brown). He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Huscusson (David), and brothers, Dennis Long (Debbie) and Donald Long (Doris). Charles was a proud father to his son, Charles "Chuck" Long (Stacey), and daughters, Carol Wineberger (Allen) and Cindy Long Johannes. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.
A graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering, Charles dedicated many years of service to Briscoe Inc., where his expertise and leadership were invaluable. Colleagues remember him not only for his professional contributions but also for his quick wit and the camaraderie he fostered. His involvement in various associations within the engineering field further exemplified his commitment to his profession and his desire to support and mentor others.
Charles's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He found joy in travel, experiencing cultures and landscapes that spanned the globe. His love for cooking was well-known amongst his family and friends, who were often treated to his delicious and often adventurous dishes.
