Charles Ancel Holtzclaw, 81, known affectionately as Charley to his friends and family, was called home on February 9, 2025. Born on September 18, 1943, in Kannapolis, NC, to the late Charles Cape Holtzclaw, and Alma Louise Roberson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Holtzclaw, who was the love of his life of 56 years.
Charley was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC., Tri-County Technical College, and the SC Criminal Justice Academy. His life was framed by his many years of dedicated and honorable military service to our country. He was not only a proud member of the Army National Guard, but he also served in the US Navy. After his military career he worked with the USPS as a postal carrier in Abbeville, SC. He was also a respected employee of the Greenwood, SC Police Department.
His passion for life was reflected in his love for all college football, basketball, and baseball, especially when it came to his UNC Tar Heels. His spirit as an athlete was unmistakable, often seen in his role as an umpire at high school ball games, whether it was softball or football, he was dedicated to fair play. Charley enjoyed fishing, golfing, and many happy years as a member in the Greenwood Shag Club and shagging at various shag clubs in North Myrtle Beach with friends and family.
Charley’s legacy is one of love, service, and the simple joys of life. He leaves behind his loving family - children, Rick Holtzclaw, Michael Holtzclaw (Sandy), Stacey Forrester (Harrison), Janice Gassaway (Hugh), Jon Holtzclaw (Jan).
