Dr. Charles Frank Griffin, known affectionately as Frank to his friends and family, passed away on June 29, 2024, in Greenville, South Carolina. Born on November 2, 1935, in Slaton, Texas, Frank was a man of exceptional intellect, humor, and love, whose presence enriched the lives of those around him.
Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Ella B. Griffin, and their children: Sheri Sadie (James), Gary Griffin (Maria), and Sharla Hall (Ronald). He was a cherished grandfather to Nicholas Sadie (Karis), Megan Fisher (Adam), Derek Griffin (Jess), Kyle Griffin, Jared Griffin, Colin Griffin, Stephanie Prentice (Troy), Brandon Vidra, and Rachel Hall. Frank also leaves behind a legacy through his great-grandchildren; Stella and Cora Sadie, Evelyn, Nolan and Isabella Fisher, Addie Griffin, and Blakely Prentice. His brother Wade Griffin (Gail), sister Carolyn German (Eugene), and a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, including Stephen Gruttadauria (Emily), Raquel Gruttadauria, Maeve, and Isla Gruttadauria, will hold his memory dear. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Finas and Grace Griffin, and his sister, Theresa Dunlap.
An accomplished academic, Frank earned his PhD and dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge. He was a revered physics professor, recognized by his peers and students alike when he was honored as Teacher of the Year.
Frank's prowess extended beyond the classroom; he was an accomplished fencer. His love for music shone brightly as he performed as a soloist and sang in a barbershop choir, bringing joy and harmony to many. Frank's athletic spirit was also evident in his love for tennis and volleyball.
Those who knew Frank would describe him as loving, intelligent, and witty. His quick wit and warm personality made him a beloved figure in both his professional and personal circles.
