Charles James "Buster" Satterfield, a man of deep faith and boundless adventure, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024, in his hometown of Greenville, SC, the same place where his story began on February 15, 1934. His life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and spiritual devotion.
Buster was the cherished son of the late James Lloyd Satterfield and Elsie Mae Young Satterfield. His journey through life was shared with his beloved wives, the late Doris O'Keitha Cantrell of 33 years, and then the late Marilyn Jean Evans also of 33 years. He was a guiding light and patriarch to his family, including his children Gail Garrett (Leon), Gary Satterfield (Diane), Michael Satterfield (Deborah), the late Lloyd Satterfield, the late Joseph Satterfield, and the late Keitha Satterfield. He is also survived by his step-children of his wife Marilyn, Brian Evans (Mouna), Melanie White (Charlie), and Wendy Chaney. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren Kelly, Jessie, Faith, David, Crystal, Christopher, Adam, Charley, and the late Jamie, as well as his 20 great-grandchildren.
Buster's work as an independent contractor showcased his skill in heating, air, and gutter work. His hands were not only instruments of his trade but also extensions of his generous spirit, always ready to build and fix whatever was needed. His professional life was marked by integrity and a reputation for excellence.
Among his many accomplishments, visiting the Holy Land in Jerusalem stood out as one of his most prized experiences. It was a journey that deeply enriched his faith and further ignited his passion for reading and studying the Bible. Buster's love for the word of Jesus was evident in his eagerness to teach and share the gospel with everyone he encountered.
His interests painted the picture of a man who embraced life with enthusiasm. As a young man, Buster found joy in the skies, piloting Cessna planes with a playful wave of the wings to his mother below. His adventurous spirit was matched by his love for the outdoors; he truly relished camping and fishing, especially when surrounded by family at the lake. These moments, immersed in nature and fellowship, were among his most treasured.
Buster's character was the embodiment of being faith-filled, adventurous, and handy. His ability to fix anything was only surpassed by his capacity to inspire and uplift those around him. His hands, which once waved from the wings of a plane and turned the pages of his Bible, will be remembered for the love and care they extended to all.
As we bid farewell to Buster, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey of purpose, and a heart full of love. His was a life that not only created a legacy of family and faith but also left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. Buster's story does not end with his passing but continues in the lives of those he touched, in the wisdom he imparted, and in the memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Charles James "Buster" Satterfield will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to soar, much like the Cessna planes he once flew, in the hearts and minds of his loved ones. As we honor his memory, we celebrate a life that exemplified the beauty of faith, the thrill of adventure, and the warmth of a loving family.
