Cecil Medley Burns, 86, passed away on March 31, 2023, at home in Greer, SC. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Alma ‘Carolyn’ Pruitt Burns. He was the son of the late Louis M and Rosa Odelle Medley Burns and he was born in New Prospect, SC on September 16, 1936.
Cecil earned a BS in Chemistry from Wofford College (University) in 1958. His work history was extensive, including Milliken; Lyman Printing & Finishing/Löwenstein/Springs Corp.; Dayco Rubber Products; and then joined The PQ Corporation where he worked until his retirement.
He enjoyed many activities, such as, boating/fishing; reading; all genres of music and car shows. He was passionate about family genealogy research and was the historian for the yearly Burns Historical Society Genealogy Reunion. He and Carolyn enjoyed trips to Biltmore Estate Gardens and Grounds and the annual Apple Festival in Hendersonville, NC. He routinely gathered with friends to have breakfast and/or lunch.
Cecil was an Army veteran; longtime member of the Greer Kiwanis Club and was of the Baptist Faith.
Cecil is survived by his children, Victoria Burns Bell and Greg Burns (Melody) all of Greer, SC; a sister and brother-in-law, Lance & Linda Wilson of Inman, SC; 2 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, He was predeceased by his brother, David Burns & a son-in-law, Jeffrey A Bell.
The family would like to thank Brushy Creek Post Acute Care and the in home healthcare team from Interim Healthcare for the exceptional services they provided. In addition, the family would like to give a Huge “Special” Neighborly Thanks to Ms Patsy Quarles and Braden, Theresa & Samantha Klein for ALL their Love and Support.
