Catherine Orban

Catherine Orban, age 81, of Easley, SC passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 4, 2020, after declining health.
She was born in 1939 to the late Marvin and Sadie Hughes Smith. Catherine was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Russell Shank. She is survived by her children Terri Cantrell (Byron); Greg Trent Shank (Tammy); Donna Shank Major (Doug); Chris Orban (Dawn); Andrew Orban (Kayla); along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
No matter how sick Catherine was, she was always determined to win the battle. When anyone else would have given up, she stayed strong. Catherine loved to listen to country music, play the piano, crochet, and sit on the front porch. She was an excellent Rummy player, who taught everyone around her how to play the card game, then was delighted to win against her new opponents. She cared for and loved many animals throughout her life. During the spring and summer months, she took great pleasure in seeing the hummingbirds, and in the fall she enjoyed watching it “rain leaves.”
The family would like to extend our appreciation to our mom’s caregivers who continued to watch over her with such love and compassion. She loved them as her own and looked forward to seeing each of them. We would also like to thank mom’s cherished caregiver from Interim Health Care, Shelly, for treating our mom with such love and kindness over many years.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, December 11, 2020, at 1:00 pm at the Cremation Society of South Carolina Westville Funerals located at 6010 White Horse Road in Greenville.
