Carolyn O’ Shields, 73, of Greenville, South Carolina passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017 while surrounded by her loving & devoted family. Born October 8, 1943, Carolyn was a Greenville native who loved her city and all the people in it. That is evident by her kindness & love shown to all those she spoke to on the phone, at church, in the stores, and everywhere else in between! Carolyn was thankful to those who helped her and always thanked them for their service. As her husband Charles put it, “she even thanked the people drawing blood at the doctor’s office”. People enjoyed being with Carolyn and often referred to her as “Sweet Pea”. She was a people person & had a very sweet spirit. No doubt about it! Carolyn left a profound mark on the world and will be missed by many people. Carolyn is preceded in death by her mother, Alice Kurkendoll Rice & her brother, Bobby Rice (Tammy). She leaves behind her loving husband, Rev. Charles E. O’Shields; her father Robert James Rice(Thelma); 2 daughters, Teresa Jones & Vickie Bryant (Timmy); a son, Eddie O’Shields; 2 sisters, Geraldine Bell (Charles) & Peggy Wallace (Dan); 2 grandsons, Brian Jones (Stephanie) & Shawn Bryant (Kelly); a granddaughter, Brittany Shick (Alex); and 4 great-grandchildren, Liam, Corbin, Emery, & Lillie. The family will celebrate Carolyn’s life with their friends on Friday, July 7, 2017 in the chapel at Westville Funeral Home, 6010 Whitehorse Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29611. The visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with services following at 2:30 p.m. For those interested in participating, a committal service & burial will take place immediately following the service at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.
