Carol Ann Leneberg Bendig

April 7, 1939 — July 22, 2024

Piedmont, SC

Carol Ann Bendig (nee Leneberg), a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away on July 22, 2024, in Piedmont, South Carolina. Born on April 7, 1939, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Carol's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her dedication to her family and community.

Carol's journey began as the cherished daughter of the late Henry Leneberg and Donna Vowinkel (nee Carlson-Leneberg). She grew up alongside her brothers, Russel Vowinkel and the late Charles Vowinkel. Carol's educational pursuits led her to earn a bachelor's degree, which paved the way for her meaningful career as a home economics teacher and substitute teacher. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom as she taught English as a second language to military wives, enriching many lives with her knowledge and kindness.

In her personal life, Carol was the loving wife of the late James Bendig, with whom she shared a beautiful life until his passing. Together, they raised two children, Deborah Lang (Keith) and David Bendig. Carol's role as a mother was one of her greatest joys, and she embraced it with all her heart. Her love only grew with the arrival of her grandchildren, Rachael (Adam) Anderson, Regan (Jason) Majerle, Brady Bendig, Bryce Bendig, and Brynn Bendig, who knew her affectionately as "Mimi."

Carol's nurturing spirit was also evident in her role as the primary caregiver for her husband during his long battle with Parkinson's disease. She faced this challenge with grace and strength, providing unwavering support and comfort to her beloved spouse.

Beyond her family, Carol had a profound impact on her community through her entrepreneurial spirit and her talent for crafting. She was the proud owner of Carol's Creations, a craft store that not only showcased her artistic abilities but also served as a hub for spreading warmth and care. Carol used her skills to sew comfort items for breast cancer patients and to knit blankets, hats, and scarves for newborns in the NICU through the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Her creations were more than just items; they were symbols of her deep compassion and desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Carol's interests were a reflection of her loving and selfless nature. She found immense joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment and creating lasting memories. Her faith-filled life was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her legacy of love and service will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and community.

As we remember Carol Ann Bendig, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that truly embodied the essence of giving. She was a woman who put others before herself, and her impact will be felt for generations to come. Carol's memory will be cherished and honored by all who were fortunate enough to have felt the warmth of her presence.
