Carol Louise Fortenberry

September 26, 1946 — January 13, 2024

Carolyn Louise Fortenberry, affectionately known as Carol to those who knew her best, passed away peacefully at her home on January 13, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on September 26, 1946, in Greenville, SC, to the late Pete Sheridan and Nora Smith Sheridan, Carolyn was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her life.

Carolyn was the beloved wife of Raymond Phil Fortenberry and a devoted mother to her children Sharon N. Barton (Stoney), Judy Bryan, Ricky Lowell (Lynn), step-son Dewayne Fortenberry (Heather), and Shane Fortenberry (Amber). She was a cherished sister to her remaining brother, Harold Sheridan, and was predeceased by her five brothers and two sisters. Carolyn's joy was multiplied by her 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, especially her granddaughter Melinda Dawn Morrow, who held a special place in her heart.

She worked in a furniture factory while raising her children and worked in the janitorial industry later in life. She dedicated herself to raising her children and lavished love and attention on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carolyn's family and friends were the centerpiece of her life, and she nurtured each relationship with the same care and attention she gave to her beloved pets.

Carolyn's zest for life was evident in her hobbies and interests. She was an avid fisherwoman, finding peace and solitude by the water. Her love for wrestling and Nascar racing showcased her spirited and lively nature. Carolyn never passed up an opportunity to attend an auction, always on the lookout for treasures and trinkets. She was known for her impressive dance moves and wasn't shy to show them off whenever music filled the air.

Her sassy personality was one of her most endearing traits, bringing laughter and smiles to all who were lucky enough to experience it. Carolyn's love and kindness were the threads that wove her family together, and these words best capture the essence of who she was.

Carolyn's life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships, simple pleasures, and enduring love. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her warmth and generosity. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a woman who lived life to the fullest, with a kind heart and a loving spirit.

As we bid farewell to Carolyn Louise Fortenberry, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the indelible mark she left on the world. Her memory will be a guiding light to her family, a reminder of the power of love, and the importance of living with joy and sass. Her spirit will continue to dance among us, as vibrant and lively as ever.

Carolyn's journey through life was marked by the love she gave and the love she received. In remembering her, we honor a life well-lived, a family well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
Receiving of family and friends will be held at 2:00pm at the Dove Assembly Church, 590 Mount Zion Rd., Spartanburg, SC on 01/20/2024. Memorial service will follow at 3:00pm.
