Carol Mae Babcock Weekes born May 29, 1931, passed away on May 10, 2023 aged 91. She was born in Rochester, NY. Carol grew up in a good loving family with her older brother Joe and her parents Frank (Broom-maker) and Catherine (Bakeshop). She had a number of close friends in the neighborhood. Her brother married her friend Lillian and her future brother-in-law Don married another friend Norma. Her friend Rita Weekes introduced her to cousin Chuck when she was 18. Later on his deathbed, Chuck said that the happiest day of his life was the day he met Carol. They married May 20, 1950.
Carol is survived by son David (Linda), grandson John (Cheryl), great-grandchildren Cora, Tessa, and Alexander and grand daughter Heidi Lizotte (Jeff). Son Alan (Trish), granddaughter Celina Alexander (Ryan), great-grandchildren McKayla, Madison and Ryleigh. Grandson Thomas ( Alisha). Predeceased by son Paul Weekes. Granddaughter Amanda Kavan (Casey), Granddaughter Emily Weekes, great-grandchildren Jordyn and Jalen.
Carol and Chuck moved to Hilton in 1960 to a house on the shore of Lake Ontario. This also was about 5 miles from the Brockport Yacht Club where they would berth their sailboats over time. They had 3 boys then. David Charles, Alan Frank and Paul Edward. The lake home was a wonderful place to raise the boys. Alan had severe asthma and was sent to Arizona for 2 years to a special school between the age of 6 and 8. This was very painful for Carol and she wrote him every day he was there. Even late in life she would shed tears telling how hard it was to send him away. He returned better.
Carol lived on the lake until 1984, and during that time they progressed through several sailboats ending with an Irwin 30 ft sailboat, Estrellita. On retirement at about 53, in 1984 they moved to Sebastian, Fl. Along with brother Joe and Lil they sailed the boat to Florida from NY. They spent several years sailing to the Bahamas and Caribbean. When they decided to finally sell the sailboat they then went on cruises and made at least 10 trips on the larger ships. They also used a converted van to travel across the country visiting relatives in California and Washington. They spent considerable time visiting Alan and Trish in South Carolina and going to camp there. They also regularly went to Washington state to visit Dave and Linda. They were close to all their grandchildren.
Chuck passed away February 2016, Carol then moved to South Carolina to be cared for by Alan and Trish. She enjoyed time with the family during the next seven years, but was living in an assisted living facility due to dementia issues. She loved playing games and spending time with great-grandchildren.
Her smile and pleasant personality will be missed. She was loved by all who knew her. She never worried and always had kind words for those around her.
