Obituary for Carl H. Thompson
On September 11, 2021, Carl H. Thompson, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at 87. Carl lived a fulfilling life, impacting many along the way. He was born in Derry NH, the son of the late Carl Oliver and Mildred Reardon Thompson. Carl, also known as "Pete or Peter", served in the Korean War as a lineman in the United States Air Force and later graduated from New England College in 1959.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Eleanor (Ellie) Dumont Thompson on August 22, 1959. Together they raised two daughters, Justine and Julie. Carl retired from Travelers Insurance after a successful 33-year career.
Carl was known for his kind and compassionate spirit, never meeting a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter, camera-man, BMW rider and overall nice guy. He belonged to the ROMEO'S (Retired Old Men Eating Out) motorcycle club in NH and traveled up and down the east coast and to the midwest to visit his grandchildren. He loved to camp, read action/adventure novels and enjoyed time with his beloved wife Ellie.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Mildred and his sister, Irene (Tish) Freitas. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Ellie) Dumont Thompson, his two daughters, Justine (Tina) Allison and Bob of Simpsonville SC, Julie Lefler and Timothy of West Des Moines, IA and 4 grandchildren, Chad Porell of Lyman SC, Ellie Allison of Allston, MA, Nicholas and Jessica Lefler of West Des Moines IA.
A Memorial Service will be held at a future date in Hudson NH. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Carl can be made to Interim Hospice, 16 Hyland Road, Greenville SC 29615.
