Carl G. Stoner, Jr. 92, of Greenville, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 at home with his wife by his side.
He was born Friday, August 2nd, 1929, in Washington DC, the son of the late Evelyn Finch Stoner, and Carl G. Stoner. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Nancy Stoner and Jean Stoner Redding. He married Mary Lou Tilton on June 22, 1963, who survives.
He graduated from Bronxville High School in Washington DC and joined the United States Naval Reserves. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he was employed by IBM as a service technician. He married Mary Lou Tilton in the Panama Canal Zone. Later moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where they resided until 1973. Upon moving to the Fork Shoals area in 1973 he became associated with St. John United Methodist Church, where he served as maintenance superintendent until 2018. In 1999 he moved with Mary Lou to their current home in the Greenville area. His passions were his 150 Cessna, Square Dancing with the Pioneers and crewing the hot air balloon, “Fleur de Tucson.”
He is survived by his brother James Arthur Finch Stoner, PH.D and sister-in-law Barbara Joan Stevens, PH.D; Niece Alexandra McLean Stevens, MD., PH.D (Husband Michael Miles J.D., children Henry William and Benjamin Arthur); Niece Carolyn Finch Stoner, JD, (Husband Yotam Barkai, JD, children, Lydia Ronan Stoner, James Arthur Finch Barkai); Nephew Emmett Arnold (Nip) Redding, a great nephew James Carl Redding.
A Memorial Service was held Saturday, October 9th, 2021 at St. John United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC with the Reverend Brian Underwood and Reverend TonyOwen officiating.
