Carl Chadbourne

Carl J. Chadbourne, 93, of Greenville, SC entered eternal rest on January 12, 2025. Carl was born in Framingham, MA on May 24, 1931, and grew up in Springfield, MA. Carl proudly graduated from Classical High School in Springfield MA, earned his bachelor’s at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston MA, and Master of Art Education at Southern CT State University.

 Carl met his beloved wife Priscilla while both taught school in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. Carl and Priscilla continued their teaching careers in Framingham, MA after their marriage in 1962 but soon moved to Southington, CT where they raised their two children. During his art career of more than 40 years, Carl was a commercial artist, a US Army illustrator, high school art teacher and department chair. Carl and Priscilla retired to South Carolina, where they made many new friends, enjoyed volunteering as museum docents and cherished family visits, and travel.

 Carl will most be remembered for his love of teaching, sense of humor, artistic talent, and his strong Christian faith. Carl was a Veteran of the Korean War and proudly served in the United States Army Reserves retiring in 1991at the rank of Master Sargent. Carl is survived by his daughter Rebecca Hopper and her husband Sam of League City, TX and by his son Christopher Chadbourne and his wife Jean of Newton, MA. Carl is also survived by his granddaughters Rachel Austin (Robert), Elisabeth Rodriguez (Joseph) and Susannah Preacher. Carl had eight great grandchildren: RJ, Annie, Adam, Judah, Joseph, Asher, Sofia, and Leland.

 Carl was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Priscilla who died in 2018. Carl was also predeceased by his parents Clarence Chadbourne and Gladys Ayles, stepfather Henry Gardiner, brothers David Chadbourne, Linwood Chadbourne, Wesley Chadbourne, and his sister Dorothy Toelken. He was also predeceased by his grandson Matthew Preacher. A private burial will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Warren MA with Military Honor Guard.
