Calvin John Spurgeon, known affectionately as Calvin, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023, in Simpsonville, SC. Born on August 19, 1955, in Lebanon, OR, Calvin was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, known for his loving, selfless, and generous nature.

Calvin was the son of the late Elsie and Burgess Spurgeon. He was the cherished husband of the late Carol Spurgeon and the proud father of two sons, James and Richard Spurgeon. Calvin was also a doting grandfather to Jonathan and Camille Spurgeon. He was the dear brother of Randy, Bobby, Teri, Andrey, Dawn, Millie, Doraina, and Beverly. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved them all deeply.

Calvin was a high school graduate who dedicated 30 years of his life to Cryovac/Sealed Air before his retirement. His hard work and dedication were evident in his long-standing career, and he was respected by his colleagues for his commitment and work ethic. Calvin was a man who believed in the value of hard work and instilled this belief in his children and grandchildren.

An avid fisherman, Calvin found peace and tranquility in the great outdoors. He could often be found with a fishing rod in hand, enjoying the serenity of nature. His love for fishing was only surpassed by his passion for collecting. For over 50 years, Calvin was an expert collector of Carnival glass, and for nearly 60 years, he collected gold and old coins. His collections were a testament to his patience, dedication, and eye for detail.

Calvin was also a regular at the Jockey Lot, where he loved finding a good deal and negotiating. His keen eye and bargaining skills were legendary among his family and friends. Despite his love for a good deal, Calvin was always generous, often sharing his finds with those he loved.

Above all, Calvin was a family man who loved his grandchildren dearly. He was a constant presence in their lives, always ready with a word of advice or a comforting hug. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he left behind.
