Bobby Leon Skipper, 79 of Pelzer, SC, went to heaven on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. He was born on December 26, 1936 in Jackson, Mississippi. Bobby, the son of the late Robert L. and Avie Clayton Skipper, is survived by his loving wife, Martha Sue Bell Skipper, his sons Ricky L. Skipper (Renee) of Liberty, SC, Bob L. Skipper of Pelzer, SC, Guy W. Skipper (Nicole) of Piedmont, SC, his daughters Lynn S. Marler (the late Robbie Marler) of Simpsonville, SC, Laura Skipper of Pelzer, SC, Amy S. Ligon (Chad) of Inman, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren Daniel Skipper (Tabitha), Kristin Skipper, Ashley Skipper, Bobby Skipper, Allison Boyke, Avie Bowlby (Ben), Brandon Skipper, Andrew Skipper, Jonathan Skipper, Hannah Skipper, Ricky Algood, Sarah Algood, and Hunter Algood. He has six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother Glyn Skipper (Shirley), two sons Timothy Skipper and Andrew Skipper, his grandson Dylan Marler, and his beloved dog, Willie.
In his 79 years, he touched the lives of many. Bobby was a loving husband, father, and Poppy to all his grandchildren. He was an avid storyteller that enjoyed gardening, studying Civil War history, and spending time with his family. He opened his heart and home to many friends including Eric Cox and David Merchant. He treated them as if they were his own children. He was also a man of great faith. He loved the Lord and instilled Godly values within his children and those near to him. He was an active member of Greenville Southern United Methodist Church and The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Moses T. Fowler Camp.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 11th at First Southern Methodist Church, 2017 Fork Shoals Road, Greenville, SC 29605. Myron Chorbajan will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the church. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital.
