Bob Cavedo, 93, of Greer SC passed on February 20, 2023, after a long battle with dementia.
Bob was born in Richmond Va.to Harold and Agnes Cavedo.
He spent his childhood and teen years in various cities in North Carolina, always considering Fayetteville NC his hometown. He maintained close ties to friends there and surrounding area throughout his life.
Recollections of growing up in Fayetteville provided Bob many tales, some taller than others; raising the kind of hell young teenage boys are capable of, while camping at Clarks Pond; delivering the evening paper at Fort Bragg during WWII, saving one for the Master Sargent, who in turn saved Bob dinner (along with all the ice cream he could eat); stealing watermelons from trucks struggling up Hay Street hill through downtown Fayetteville to points north; packing peaches at the peach shed in the summer and saving just enough money to hitchhike with Bobby Hasty, Sonny Jones, and Boots Bullard to Cherry Grove SC, then waiting until Labor Day to hitchhike back home in time for the bell to ring on the first day of school.
Due to a change in his father’s job, Bob moved to Winston Salem NC the summer before his senior year in high school. During his stay in Winston Salem, he became good friends with Bill May, whose uncle had given Bill a WWII era Piper Cub. Working on and flying in the cub provided both many happy hours.
Bob graduated from Reynolds High School in Winston Salem in 1949 and attended NC State, studying textile engineering.
Bob dropped out of NC State after his junior year and obtained a job as a drafter with Western Electric, a division of Bell Labs. This started Bob on a long and rewarding career in Engineering, designing tools and systems for Western Electric, True Temper, Owens Corning Fiberglass, The Singer Corporation (now TTI) and JE Sirrine (now Jacobs).
He enjoyed, and excelled at many pastimes, among them; motorcycles, whitewater canoeing, photography, shooting sports, house renovation, travel, and wood working always remaining a loving and supportive husband to Becky and a wonderful friend to many. He loved the adventures life had to offer and took advantage of them all.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Becky Clark Cavedo, son Bill Cavedo (DeRee), daughter Catherine Cavedo Campbell, grandsons Will Cavedo (Andie), Ellison Cavedo, and Cameron Cavedo (Alexis), and great granddaughter Cora. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Tom Cavedo.
He leaves many dear friends that will cherish memories made together.
A gathering of family and friends will be scheduled to celebrate Bob and remember the contributions he made to our lives and smiles he brought to our hearts.
In the meantime, Becky asks that you raise a glass of your favorite beverage and toast Bob’s memory and the many fine times you have shared.
Many thanks to all the kind and loving caregivers, family, and friends that have been with, and supported us through Bob’s journey with dementia.
