September 27, 1937 — February 28, 2025

Betty Owens Sloan, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away with her family by her side on February 28, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on September 27, 1937, in Tamassee, South Carolina, Betty's life was a testament to her spirited nature and her boundless capacity to care for others.

Betty was the cherished daughter of the late Fred and Ina Owens and the devoted wife of the late C. Edward (Buster) Sloan. Buster and Betty shared 52 and a half loving years together, and are now reunited with the Lord. Her journey through life was marked by the love she shared with her family, including her late son, Lonnie Holden, her sister, Nellie Martin, her children, Nelda (Kenneth) Frady, Tommy (Sylvia) Sloan, and Melinda (Eric) Morris, her eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Each of them benefited from her endless love and the warmth of her generous spirit.

Throughout her life, Betty was a pillar of her community, welcoming everyone into her home with open arms, as she never met a stranger. Her career was characterized by her roles as a seamstress and an office assistant at Mappin and Associates, where she was known for her diligence and kindness. Betty's commitment to service was further exemplified by her involvement with the Downey Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as a past worthy matron, touching the lives of many with her dedication and compassion.

Betty's interests were a reflection of her love for life and her love for her family. An avid gardener, she found joy in the beauty of nature and the simple pleasure of nurturing growth. Her cooking was a source of comfort and celebration, bringing people together around her table. A fervent supporter of Clemson football, Betty's enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and her spirit of camaraderie was felt by all who joined her to cheer on her beloved team.

To remember Betty is to remember a woman whose heart knew no bounds. Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence, and her selfless nature ensured that those around her felt valued and cared for. Betty's legacy is one of love, a legacy that will continue to flourish in the lives of those she touched.

Betty Owens Sloan lived a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by her family and the countless lives she impacted. Her spirit, characterized by love and selflessness, will continue to inspire and guide us.
