Betty Lou Hardyman November 21, 1936 - December 25, 2016
Preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Dorothy Pfleger; her brother, Don Pfleger; her husband, Harry Lee Hardyman; and an infant daughter, Dana Jo Hardyman.
She is survived by a daughter, Janeen Hardyman Finch (Rob); a son, Brian Hardyman (Andrea); and five grandchildren: Nikki Rice (Mike), Kerri West (Tyler), CJ Finch (Summer), Micaela Hardyman, and Cameron Hardyman. Betty is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren: Jackson West, Cayden West, Deacon Rice, Reese Finch, Logan West, Eli Rice, and Grayson West (due in January).
Betty was a devoted and faithful wife to her beloved husband, Harry (Pap), as evidenced by their marriage of 53 years. Her devoted care for him during his extended battle with cancer was a testimony to her faithful, loving heart.
Her life's work was teaching. She taught everywhere she lived: Portsmouth, OH, Cross Lanes, WV, and Greenville, SC. Even after her retirement she continued to teach, serving as an after-school tutor at her church, North Hills Community Church. Her investment of her life into her many hundreds - if not thousands - of students stands as a testimony of her desire to help and serve the children she loved so much. As a result, they came to love her in return.
She enjoyed reading, doing various kinds of needle work, working challenging jigsaw puzzles, camping with Pap, and, of course, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Her life was given in large part to others- never demanding much for herself. She was most happy when those she loved were happy, and she gave much of herself to ensure that would be the case. Her love for her family and her love for God were obvious to all who knew her. Her beautiful spirit, radiant smile, and hearty laughter were gifts to us all, and we will miss these and many, many other things that made her loved by us all.
Services will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 at North Hills Community Church, 4952 Edwards Rd., Taylors, SC 29687. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3:30 - 4:15 PM, with the memorial service at 4:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Open Arms Hospice or Miracle Hill Children's Home.
