Betty Ann (Ryberg) Shurley, 80, passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2022.
Betty grew up in Brockton, MA, daughter of the late Sigurd and Alice Ryberg, and sister to the late Vera Ryberg Justason. She met her husband, the late Bill Shurley, at a dance at Otis Air Force Base, and from there went on to have many adventures and live in many cities with him. After years of working in administrative roles in the education and medical fields, Betty retired from her role as the Residency/Fellowship Program Coordinator at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2006. She and Bill then moved from Houston, TX, to Greenville, SC, in order to spend more time with their grandchildren.
In her retirement years, Betty was an active participant and volunteer with many organizations, including the Red Hat Society, the Mini Cooper Club, Newcomers, and Civitan. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends floating in her pool, attending local theatre, and dining in local restaurants.
Betty is survived by her sons, Neil Shurley of Greenville, SC, and Cash Shurley of Dallas, TX, their wives, Jennifer and Andi, her beloved grandchildren, Emma, Shaw, Knox, and Gibson, and her niece and nephews. She will be missed by all, but especially by her rescue dog, Sweetie.
Donations in her memory can be made to Greenville Civitan Club, PO Box 16493, Greenville SC 29606.
