Bette Cox Southerland, daughter of the late George Carson Cox and Roberta Cooper Cox was born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on November 18, 1927. She died peacefully on June 22, 2020 with her wit and charm still intact.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John Philip Southerland and her sister, Helen Cox Scarborough. She is survived by her son, John Philip Southerland, Jr. (Nancy) and daughter Anne Southerland Ellefson (Ted) in addition to grandchildren Philip Southerland (Anna), Andy Southerland (Sara), Carson Southerland (Sarah), Rebecca Ellefson, Anne Cooper Doherty (Owen), Todd Ellefson (Stacy) and nine great-grandchildren.

The family is so appreciative of the love, prayers and support of our friends but in light on the Covid pandemic will not have visitation and will have a private interment at Fourth Presbyterian Church where Mrs. Southerland was a long time member.
A special thanks to Jaime and Farrio Sadler, Jean Smith and Augie Mitchell for their loving and wonderful care during these last few years.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Fourth Presbyterian Church Endowment, 703 E. Washington St., Greenville, SC.
