Barbara Malone

d. August 4, 2017

Barbara Lynn Malone passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2017 at Lake Keowee near Seneca, SC. Barbara was the daughter of Vincent and Jean Werdein and was born on June 4, 1955 in Buffalo, NY and was a graduate of Buffalo State University in Buffalo, NY. She lived in the Buffalo area until she moved to the Syracuse, NY area in 1989. She is survived by her husband, Francis Malone, of Anderson, SC, her sister Patricia Henderson of Peterborough, ON, CA, brother David Werdein of Caledonia, NY, brother Anthony Werdein of Pentfield, NY and sister Mary Tipping of Sellersville, PA. Barbara had no children of her own but treated Francis’s daughter Marie Brown of Fulton, NY and son Aaron Malone of Cazenovia, NY along with their children as her own. She also had 3 dogs and 8 cats that survive her. She is predeceased by her Father and Mother along with 29 adopted cats and 11 adopted dogs. Barbara worked at various jobs in the Buffalo, NY area in Syracuse, NY and retired from Syracuse Securities in Syracuse, NY in March of 2015. Upon retirement she left her home of 23 years in Jordan, NY and moved to Anderson, SC. She loved South Carolina. Especially its lack of snow. Upon moving she decided that the new property needed improvement and started planting. She discovered the South Carolina Botanical Gardens in Clemson, SC in 2015 and has been a member since. She has been a regular at their plant sales. She also discovered Hatcher Garden in Spartanburg, SC and managed to make every one of their plant sales also. Her love of plants expanded this year when she joined the South Carolina Native Plant Society. Her other interests involved her animals and riding her motorcycle when she got a chance. There will be no services or calling hours at Barbara’s request. But if you wish she would have suggested a contribution to your local animal shelter or, even better adopt from the shelter of your choice.
