Joan P. Hardesty, 68, passed away on December 15, 2018 at her home in Pelzer, SC with her husband, Howard “Sonny” Hardesty, by her side. She was born on July 31st,1950 in Greenville, SC to Lloyd Guy Pressley and Mildred King Pressley.
Joan grew up in Upstate, SC. She briefly attended Irvine Royal Academy in Aryshire, Scotland before graduating in 1968 from Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, SC for which she received a certificate of recognition from SC Senator Strom Thurmond. She was also a member of the National Beta Club. After high school Joan pursued a career in business and finance, working for the Fluor Daniel Corporation, Sunbelt Capital, Inc., and Wendell Lunsford Accounting Associates.
Joan married Howard “Sonny” Hardesty in 2002 in Taylors, SC. They were happily married for 16 years. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, farming, raising animals, fishing, boating, and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd Guy Pressley and Mildred King Pressley as well as her daughter Sarah Rebecca Fowler, great-grandson Brantley Smith, and her sister Jean Gandy.
Joan is survived by her husband Howard “Sonny” Hardesty of Pelzer, SC; her sons David (Allison) Holcombe of Campobello, SC and Martin Holcombe of Greer, SC; Son-in-Law Bobby (Cheryl) Fowler of Gray Court, SC; her step-daughters Ashley (Kate) Hardesty of Columbia, SC and Casey (Jeremy) Stephens of Piedmont, SC; her sister Judy Pressley of Greenville, SC; her grandchildren Jessica, Jordan, David, Sullivan, Logan, Kolbie, and Anslie; and her great-grandchildren Bobby, Brian, Bentley, and Elleigh.
A memorial service for immediate family and close friends will be held at Westville Funeral Home, 6010 White Horse Rd, Greenville, SC at 5PM, Saturday, December 22, 2018.
