Tony “Whit” Whitaker was welcomed into God’s arms on Tuesday evening September 27, 2016. Tony was blessed to have his family by his side, in his home, when he was called.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany August 5, 1960, he was the son of the late James Edward Whitaker Sr. and Mary Valeriay Whitaker of Easley, SC.
In addition to his loving and caring wife of 19 years, Carol Dietrich Whitaker, Tony is survived by his sons, Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Michael Gary Norback of Pickens, SC (currently stationed in Pakistan) and Daniel Whitaker of Pickens, SC; daughters Amy Norback Richards(Brad) of Milford, CT and Sarah Lynn Whitaker of Pickens, SC. Tony is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Mr. & Mrs. Diane Sellers(Leonard) of Pendleton, SC, Mr. Roger Whitaker and his predeceased wife Debra of Piedmont, SC, Mr. & Mrs. Donnie Whitaker(Bernice) of Six Mile, SC, Mr. & Mrs. Darlene Stancil(Wayne) of Six Mile, SC, Mr. & Mrs. James Whitaker Jr.(Lynda) of Pickens, SC, Mr. & Mrs. Brenda Kickery(John) of Easley, SC and Mr. & Mrs. Richard Whitaker(Allison), of Pickens, SC. Tony has numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends that will miss him greatly.
Tony was an avid outdoorsman and marksman. When Tony wasn’t at home he could be found in a boat or on the shore, fresh and salt water fishing. Tony’s talents were many but he excelled as a skilled carpenter, auto mechanic, plumber, electrician, and locksmith. Tony also enjoyed solving complex wood and metal puzzles.
Tony has been employed as the University Carpentry Supervisor at Furman University in Greenville, SC for the last 16 years.
To quote one of Tony’s many friends: “He was the easiest guy you would ever have had the pleasure to meet and I am honored to have been his friend”.
The family will receive relatives and friends at The Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Pickens, SC. Visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 1, 2016 beginning at 10 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Hampton Avenue in Pickens, SC. Graveside services will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens S.C.
