Anne Garrett Smith, 89 of Greenville, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021, following a brief illness. She was born in Greenville to the late LC and Lola Alexander Garrett. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Alvin P. (AP) Smith, Jr, daughter Jan S. Rainwater, son-in-law Tommy Pittman, grandson Brett Smith, and siblings Nora (Ed) Barnhill and Buddy (Lola) Garrett. She is survived by her daughter Connie S. Pittman, Simpsonville; Alvin P. (Roseanne) Smith, III, Marietta, GA; and Kipling G. Smith, Simpsonville; grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Hedreen, Garrett Pittman, Claire (Joe) McCain, Brittany (Zach) Pike, Tiffany (Jake) Peer; and nine great-grandchildren, soon to be ten. She is also survived by a brother, Billy (Martha) Garrett, and many nieces and nephews.
Anne graduated from Greenville High School in 1949. She married Alvin P. (AP) Smith in September 1949. Anne and Alvin owned and operated Alvin Smith Truck Body Sales for 20 plus years. After closing the business in 1981, she returned to dentistry and worked many years in the offices of Drs. Smith and Holliday. A life-long faithful church member, she was active in WMU and prepared many delicious meals for Wednesday night dinners and special occasions at Pelham Rd and Five Forks Baptist Churches. She enjoyed camping and was a member of the Travel Master Camping Club. She enjoyed many family trips to the pink house on Tybee Island, GA. She loved gardening, tailgating, and Clemson University football games. She was a great storyteller and loved a good joke. Whether you called her Mom or Mama, Grandmother, or Anne you are better for having shared her life and you just might have been the recipient of her delicious chicken salad or yummy brownies.
The family would like to thank the staff at the McCall Hospice House for the kind, loving care provided during her final days.
