Mrs. Ann Laura Allen Johnston

April 5, 1927 — May 26, 2019

Ann Laura Allen Johnston, 92, slipped peacefully into her Heavenly home Sunday, May 26 surrounded by her loving family in Greenville, South Carolina. She was a true Kentuckian, born in Hopkins County to Charlie Henry Allen and Ora Boyd Allen April 5, 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Charles Allen, a sister Jane Neese and an infant sister, Walleen.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Ira Judson Johnston, son Joel Allen Johnston and his wife Denette ; daughter Mary Johnston Poole and her husband Mitchell; grandchildren Ashley Caldwell and husband Dodd, Joshua Johnston and wife Shonda and Jay Johnston; great-grandchildren Mary Alex Anderson, William, Noah, Flynn, Cole, Wells, Carter Johnston and Autumn Johnston; and one great, great granddaughter Charlotte Rae Anderson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Terry and Cindy Allen, Julie and Gary McCormick, Jim and Deb Allen, all of Madisonville, Dan Neese of Dallas, Tx, Mark and Julie Neese of Casper, WY and Sally and Robert Shain of Tulsa, Ok.

She was a life-long member of First Baptist Church in Madisonville, serving as a Sunday School teacher, leader in the children’s music program, and as a teacher in Vacation Bible School. In later life, she started the Loving Care program for bereaved families. She was PTA president for West Broadway and served in many other activities to support the school. As a dedicated Homemaker, she took her job seriously and was always learning new ways to enhance her home and served as Hopkins County Homemakers President. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing bridge and cooking, especially for parties. Everyone she loved has an item she made for them. Later in life, she knitted sweaters for the Mission Board for babies and Barbie doll clothes for little girls in our family.

The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 29 at Madisonville First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:00-11:00. At her request, the family will be hosting a tea on Friday from 2:00-5:00 at Ruby Lodge at Spring Lake. All friends are invited to come and share. Internment will be at Veterans Cemetery West at an undetermined time.
