Ann Nell Bayne

Ann's journey began as the cherished daughter of the late Nicholas Wood and Christine Steadman, and was a step-daughter to the late Marvin Riley Dalton and Opal Dalton. Her early years were marked by a profound resilience that would become the hallmark of her character. Despite the challenges she faced, Ann's determination led her to graduate from the South Carolina School of the Deaf and Blind, a significant achievement that set the stage for her lifelong commitment to helping others.

Ann's heart found its match in Lamar Bayne, her devoted husband, with whom she built a life filled with joy and purpose. Together, they raised two sons, Bobby Hampton (Tara) and David Hampton (Lyn), who inherited their mother's strength and compassion. Ann's legacy continued to flourish through her beloved grandchild, Lexi (Tyler) Simmons, and her great-grandson, Oliver Simmons, who brought immense joy to her later years.

Ann's love extended beyond her immediate family to her sister, Joyce Robinson (Sam), and her niece, Elizabeth (Tim) Clifford. She was preceded in death by her nieces, Melissa Robinson and Andrea Dalton, her brother, Lonnie Dalton, and her parents. Each family member held a special place in Ann's heart, and she nurtured these relationships with the same care and attention she gave to every aspect of her life.

Professionally, Ann was a skilled weaver, an art that required patience and precision. Her work was not just a job but a craft she honed with pride. However, it was her role as a volunteer sign language teacher for the Clemson community that truly captured her passion. Ann's expertise and enthusiasm for American Sign Language (ASL) made her an invaluable resource and a beloved figure among those eager to learn and connect with the deaf community.

Ann's interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. She was an active member of her church and the ASL Club, where she shared her faith and her skills with equal fervor. A die-hard Clemson Football fan, Ann never missed a game and relished the camaraderie and excitement that came with each season. Above all, Ann cherished the time spent with family and friends, understanding that these moments were the true treasures of life.

Described by those who knew her as loving, faith-filled, and courageous, Ann's impact on the world around her was profound. She taught by example, showing that barriers are meant to be overcome and that communication is an art that transcends words. Her unwavering spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
