Amelia Townsend Alexander, aged 93, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, in Anderson, SC. Born in Greenwood, SC, she was a daughter to the late Francis Asbury Townsend and Ella Sherard Townsend. She was a longtime resident of Aiken, SC prior to moving to Anderson.
Amelia was a proud alumna of St. Mary’s School in Raleigh, NC, and furthered her education at Converse College before graduating from the University of South Carolina. Her academic achievements were only a part of her rich life filled with love and dedication to her family.
She was the beloved wife of the late William R. Alexander and a caring sister to Francis A. Townsend, Jr. and the late Elizabeth T. “Betty” Wessinger. Amelia's legacy continues through her children, William R. Alexander, Jr. (Stella), Amelia A. Skipper (Dock), David L. Alexander (Joan), and Pamela A. Augspurger (Mark). She was also a cherished grandmother to Amanda A. Connelly (Brian), Bryan Alexander (Karassa), Britt Alexander (Anna), Jake Alexander (Courtney), Danielle A. Daniel (Kyle), and Aaron C. Augspurger (Kristin), and adored her seven great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of Amelia’s life will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson, SC, or Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, SC.
The Cremation Society of SC in Greenville, SC, is assisting the family with arrangements. Amelia's kindness and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her wish is for everyone to be happy for the life she had and not be sad.
