Alice Faye Sheppard-Poole

October 1, 1947 — June 6, 2024

Greenville, SC

Alice Faye Sheppard Poole, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully in her hometown of Greenville, SC, on June 6, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on October 1, 1947, to the late George F. Sheppard and Annie Ruth Fain Sheppard, Alice’s life was a testament to the power of selflessness and the joy of giving.

Alice grew up in Greenville alongside her siblings, forging a path illuminated by her loving spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband James Wilburn Poole, father, mother, brother Lee Sheppard, and sister Nettie Weathers. Her devotion to family is carried on by her beloved sisters, Frankie Gilbert and Claudia Plowden, who will miss her deeply.

A proud mother and matriarch, Alice's legacy lives on through her sons Timothy Stone, Dennis Stone, and her daughter-in-law Sarah Pace Stone. Her love knew no bounds, extending to her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Burcham, Allison Stone, Ashley Stone, Jessica Olivarez, Joseph Stone, Jacob Stone, and Jonathan Stone. Alice also embraced her role as a great-grandmother with open arms, cherishing every moment with Taegan Burcham, Jocelyn Burcham, Aaliyah Olivarez, and Asher Stone.

Alice's professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. She spent many years as a straight cutter at JPS Slater Mill and Emb-Tex Textiles, where her colleagues knew her as a reliable and caring presence. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her commitment to her family and community.

Known for her exceptional culinary skills, Alice found great joy in cooking and baking. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome, filled with the aroma of her delicious creations. She also enjoyed serving people, whether it was through her cooking or simply by lending a listening ear. Her love for visiting Cherokee, NC was well known, as was her fondness for settling down to watch a good western.

Alice's life was characterized by her loving nature, her generosity, and her selflessness. These traits were the foundation upon which she built her life and the legacy she leaves behind. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel special, to turn a house into a home, and to create joy in the simplest of moments.

As we say farewell to Alice Faye Sheppard Poole, we celebrate a life lived with an open heart and open arms. Her spirit will continue to guide us, and her memory will remain a comforting presence in the lives of all who knew her. Alice’s story is not one of an ending, but a beautiful chapter in the ongoing story of a family who adored her and a community that was made better by her presence.

The family will carry Alice's love and memories forward, honoring her life by embodying the values she held dear. Alice's journey on earth has concluded, but the impact of her love and kindness will continue to resonate for generations to come.
