Alfred Finley Holder, 89, of Greenville, SC, entered peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior in the early hours of August 18, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was the son of Dial McSwain Holder, Sr., and Elizabeth Finley Holder, and was retired from Ashworth Brothers, Inc. He was a member of Laurel Baptist Church for 65 years, where he served as a Deacon, and sang in the choir. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, avid golfer, teller of worn-out Dad jokes, and possessor of a keen observational humor.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years, Patsy Ann Caudell Holder, son Daniel (Danny) Holder, wife, Tracey, daughter Julie Kolb, husband, Richard, and granddaughter, Nolan Holder, all of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by a brother, Benjamin (Ben) Holder of Greenwood, SC, and a host of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Dial M. Holder, Jr., and Gene Holder. He was also predeceased by sisters, Laura Jane Payne, and Betty Sue O’Shields.
The family would like to thank the ICU nursing staff of St. Francis Hospital – Eastside for their care and patience. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Laurel Baptist Church, 2331 Laurens Rd., Greenville, SC.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Laurel Baptist Church, 2331 Laurens Rd., Greenville, on Sunday, August 21. There will be a receiving of friends from 2-2:30, and the service will immediately follow.
