Alf Moody Eastergard, 67, of Greenville, went to be with his Saviour, Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
Born in Harlan, Iowa, he is the son of the late Anker and Edith Eastergard. Alf attended Harlan High School, earned his BS in accounting at Bob Jones University, MBA in business with emphasis in economics from University of Nebraska, Omaha, and PhD in business with emphases in financial and managerial accounting, financial statement analysis and statistics from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, before beginning his career in corporate accounting where from 1973-1981 he worked for Fox & Co., Xerox, and FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board). In 1982, he left the corporate world to share his profound passion of accounting on a college and post-graduate level with the hope of teaching future accountants to perform at a level exceeding the current accounting standards. Over the next 34 years Alf taught at Doane College, Crete, NE; University of Maine, Orono, ME; South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, SC; Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and American University in Bulgaria, Blagoevrad, Bulgaria, Europe and Claflin University, Orangeburg, SC.
Alf’s fantastic sense of humor was a rare gift that all who met him will forever cherish. Alf had a continual quest for seeking the finer things in life: beauty in music, art, travel and food. Similarly his love for God was profound when as a young child, Alf recognized his need for a Saviour and Shepherd. His beloved sister, Kirsten, prayed with him when he desired to be born again. His appreciation for his Godly home permeated his life.
Alf’s last advise to those gathered around his bed before stepping into eternity with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, was: “Serve the Lord…find something you can do…and start early because life is short and you will run out of time.”
Surviving are siblings George and Mary Eastergard of Greenville, SC; Roger and Annette Wilson of Harlan, IA; brother-in-law Bob Cundiff of Clearwater, FL; three nephews and three nieces, eight great-nephews and three great-nieces, ten cousins in Denmark and one in Uganda. He was predeceased by his sister Kirsten Cundiff.
