Rev. Alexander Dick Powe, 95 of Taylors died March 20, 2017 at Greer Rehab and Rehabilitation. Born on March 31, 1921 in Biloxi, Mississippi to the late Ira J. and Alice M. Powe. He was predeceased by three brothers: John D., Otis, and Elige Powe of Biloxi, Mississippi and one sister: Annie Mae McDowell of Stockton, California. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was associate Pastor at Bruton Temple Baptist Church and Mt. Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a foster parent for many years.
He retired from Winn Dixie Bakery and worked for Piper Roofing, also was a cook and a carpenter and owner of Powe Grocery for 20 years.
Rev. Alexander Powe served in the US Army and received several awards: Metal of Honor, Good Conduct and Sharp Shooter. He was a loving, caring and kind father who would do anything to help others.
Surviving is his wife Eula Ruth Powe of 74 Years; 5 children: two sons: Alexander Powe, Jr. of Biloxi, Mississippi and Ira Powe of Greenville, SC; three daughters: Sula Kirksey of Taylors, Teresa Powe of Taylors, and Nyoka Powe of Greenville. Brenda Choice and Bryant Floyd was reared in the home; 22 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law: Annie Powe of Biloxi, Mississippi and Gussie Farley of Biloxi and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to his devoted caregivers: Mrs. Loretta Horton and Larissa Troup. Also a special thanks to Greer Rehab and Rehabilitation and Palladium Hospice Staff.
Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2017 with Funeral Service to begin at 2:00pm Westville Funeral home. Burial will be Monday, March 27, 2017 at 10:00 am at Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery
