Ronald Steve Childers, 67, from Taylors, SC, died on Saturday May 7, 2022. He was born on July 7, 1954 in Abbeville SC, to the late Elizabeth Childers Hardy. He lived with his grandparents, Alvin & Ruth Childers, who adopted Steve at birth. Upon their deaths, Steve was sent to live at Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood, SC. He often said that being raised at Connie Maxwell was the positive turning point of his life & made him the man that he was. In addition to his Mother & Grandparents, Steve was preceeded in death by his Great Aunt Ruby Freeman, Aunt Guynell Matthews & Uncle Walter Childers of Elberton, Ga.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Phyllis Johnson Childers, his brother in-law, Ed Johnson and wife Angie, niece Heather Rickard and her husband Michael, and nephew Derek Johnson and his wife Natasha. Steve was completely and totally in love with Heather and Derek and was so proud to be called Uncle Steve. Also surviving are his 3 little monkey's, twins Isaac and Isabelle and Brayden Rickard, who he adored. "Uncle Teeb gave the best hugs ever" according to Isabelle. He loved them so much.

Steve is survived by step-brothers Joey Marchbanks and Edward, Jennings, and Danny Lee Hardy, special cousins Donnie Matthew's and wife Sue of Elberton Ga, and several other cousins who he loved.

Steve graduated from Greenwood High School and served in the US Air Force and the Air Force Reserves. Most of his professional career was spent in the electrical supply field. He retired from McNaughton McKay Electric Company where he worked in Inside Sales for 29 years.

If you ever met Steve, it's not likely you would forget him. He had a huge heart, and cherished his many friendships. Steve considered his brothers and sisters from Connie Maxwell his family and loved them with all his heart. He was especially close with his life long buddies and partners in crime, Marc Ellison and Jesse Roakes, who he considered to be his actual brothers and his best friends. Steve never met a stranger and always had a joke ready to lighten the mood. He had an incredible sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He remained close with many of his coworkers throughout the years, especially with his McNaughton McKay family. He had childhood friends that he remained close with until the end. If you were Steve's friend, it was for life.
