Richard Lamont Campbell was born on June 6th, 1951 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Velma Covington Campbell and Donald Richard Campbell. He transitioned from this earthly plain on April 24th, 2018 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Campbell graduated from high school in Oakland, California. He received on –the-job-training with the Kaiser Corporation of Oakland, CA. He worked in the drafting and design electrical engineering department. He worked as a licensed free-lance electrician, maintenance man, and general skilled technician. Mr. Campbell was gifted and talented in many diverse areas including music, interior decorating as well as areas of mechanical and electric engineering. Lamont joined church as a preteen and sang in the choir at his church in Oakland, CA. During his teen years he lived briefly with his maternal grandfather, Pastor Foster L. Covington Jr. in Texarkana, Texas.
Lamont proudly served as his grandfather’s unofficial “Armor Bearer” and wore his wide bright smile as he walked beside his grand dad. Lamont had a warm, outgoing, personality. He was jovial and enjoyed fellow ship with family and friends. Lamont was ever willing to help someone in need, and would do whatever was in his power to lift a friend who was down and out. Richard was married at a young age and to this union was born one son, Ricky Campbell. Later Jalina and Jason Campbell were born. He was blessed with grandchildren, Jerisha, Rickesha, and Reckell; great grandchildren-Jayden and Jordyn Pitre. He later joined with Carol (Bonnie) Kerns, his loving companion for the last 29 years.
Mr. Campbell has awaiting him in the heavenly realm his three children and his only brother, Fredrick S. Covington. He is survived by his companion Carol (Bonnie), son, Craig Childers, and daughter-Kenya Childers of Greenville, SC, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his mother Velma Covington Bradley, sister Elizabeth Lyttle, nephew Jarvis Lyttle, extended family-brother Tony Harriston and sister Jaquita Harriston, sister-in-law Ravenna Cash, Uncles Van Covington (Mae Helen), James E. Battle (Lillie) Foster s. Covington, Aunts Royaline Battle Edwards (Kelvin) Norma Covington Hill, Shirley Covington Lightfoot, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends as well as Shadow and Honey beloved pets
