Mr. Jimmy Ray Harper, 80, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday, January 12th, 2018 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, South Carolina. He was born July 30th, 1937 in Townville, South Carolina to his parents, the late Cleo C. and Johnnie Mae Gibson Harper.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter Angela Bagwell of Anderson, SC, son-in-law Kenneth Fertig of Bonneau, SC, his granddaughters; Kristen White and her husband Will of Bonneau, SC, Katherine Fabel and her husband Cullen of Moncks Corner, SC, and Chyene Harper and her fiancé Cory of Seneca, SC. Jimmy Ray had also been blessed with two great grandchildren; Chanson Fertig and Kinsley Ellenburg. His sister; Faye Staley of Burlington, NC was able to be with him before he passed. Ruth Clark of Seneca is his sister in law.
Along with his parents Mr. Harper was predeceased by his wife Betty Jo Harper, his son Dwayne Harper, his daughter Darlene Fertig, two brothers; Harrison Harper and Jerry Harper, as well as his sister Ann Altman.
Mr. Harper served his country proudly in the United States Army as an MP in Germany.
His knowledge as a maintenance electrician served him well as an employee with Duke Energy and later with J. P. Stevens from where he retired after many years. He was an avid fisherman and storyteller. He was also known for his jokes and humor. Above all Jimmy Ray was a devoted family man and a proud member of Return Baptist Church in Seneca, SC.
A visitation will be held from 2-3pm with a service to follow at 3pm at his church; Return Baptist Church, Monday, January 15th, 2018.
